Kadàktrū

Essential Form of Mind

Kadàktrū is the magic Form which deals with the mind, thoughts, personality, and madness. The Form should not be confused with a study of the brain, even if some scholars have directed their attentions toward that organ. For the most part, Dekàli anatomists never definitively determined where thought and emotion are processed. Many agree that the brain has intimate dealings with the senses of sight, hearing, and taste (due to proximity if nothing else) but that does not provide adequate support to the notion that thought and emotion are housed within the same organ. There are many students of the Kadàktrū Form which believe that all emotion resides within the heart (i.e., Vīsìktrū) and that intellect is a product of the soul (i.e., Vorádrū).

Maladies of the mind are believed to be caused by curses, demons, guilt, sickness, and other causes. Asylums of the post-Dekàli period serve as holding centers for these poor unfortunates. In a few regions (Oð included), Kadàktrū magicians are employed to try and balance the energies within these “broken minds”. It is believed that the maladies are a result of magic imbalances. Kadàktrū theory suggests that if these magics can be brought into parity, the maladies may be cured. In practice, there are no quick cures. Most patients that undergo the Kadàktrū “treatments” are irrevocably reduced to mental quiescence. Although this is a blessing for some, it spells death for many. Despite uninspiring results, the experiments continue.

Spells

In controlled settings, Kadàktrū magic is usually directed toward the eyes (visual), ears (audible), mouth (vapor), or chest (touch). The target of spells depends both on the effect desired or where the Weaver / Channeler believes the conscience resides.
