Valànya

The Giver, The Lifegiver

Valànya the Lifegiver appears as a beautiful ghostly woman that walks through fields planting seeds. She carries a large satchel which she stops and studies before withdrawing each single seed and placing it in the ground. Valànya is also depicted as planting seeds into the “stomachs” of women. Priestesses of Valànya are chosen by virtue of their divine births.

The role of the Pryr Valànya often includes midwifery.

In areas where Valànya is worshiped, whenever an illegitimate child is born a Pryn Valànya investigates. The mother and priest pray together until the father is learned. If it is revealed that the child has no father (a result of failed Orádra), the child is marked for the priesthood. A mark is placed on the hand of females, and on the forehead of males. The Mark of Valànya is believed to confer sterility. Pryr Valànya hold a special place in the cult of Kændlan, despite their paradoxical impotence.
