Neðérim

Surely there are better places to visit than this?!

At the center of the Neðéri maelstrom lies the Island of Nephet. Those that land upon its shores could not be more lost.

The burning shores of Nephet are a ghostly landscape of jagged black stones rising from fields of blue and violet flame. The fires of this island are living things, moving across the landscape in search of fuel. There are no twigs or branches to feed upon, only the spirits of those that fate has cast upon the seething shores. Spirits arrive by boat, which moor along one of many stone piers that extend into the vaporous sea. Each of the ships is crewed by a team of baleful Neðérim, working mechanically in silence among the sails as the ships ease into dock. Only the captains, large winged abominations maimed and chained to the ship’s prows, are permitted to speak as they croak and shout their commands. Once each ship is tethered to a traffic-worn pier, and the planks are lowered with long pulleys, the sounds of whips crack in the air and the Damned are corralled from their cages. Every soul that emerges from the ship’s hold wearing a heavy metal collar that bows their backs and keeps their faces down. It is a small blessing that for a time they cannot see what awaits them beyond the piers, the burning shores, and long Road to Dizg Màrzagk.

Nephet, like most of the Nether, is populated by varying forms of Neðérim.

The Damned that arrive in Nephet have been cast from more benign realms for reasons determined by their beliefs. Since these standards vary greatly, the Damned are a curious mix of good and evil souls. Each of the Damned wears a heavy collar that keeps them bent and facing downward. Each collar has powerful regenerative powers that cause the spirit’s flesh to regrow each day, so that it may be burned, stripped, flensed, seared, and pierced again and again.
