Cloaks

  • Cloaks of Inìgis. /ˈaɪˌnʌ.ɡʌs/ A deep green cloak with silver clasps and grey embroidery. When the Cloak of Inìgis is worn and the hood is raised, the wearer’s head and face are consumed by a black emptiness. An onlooker’s curious hand will be unable to find the wearer’s face inside the hood’s confines. This side-effect has no effect on the wearer’s ability to see, speak, smell, or hear but does prevent physical attacks to the head (though a strong enough strike could knock the hood off). The wearer cannot feel his own face either. Eating and drinking (via the head) is impossible when the hood is raised. The neck can be felt as a round polished surface. The properties of the cloak are baffling to sages and magicians who study Inkàðura, and prestigidators intent on replicating the trick. What is known about these cloaks are that several were created by an old Taldàni sorceress named Inìgis the Gray in the early 3rd century DR for a group of adventurers planning a trip deep into the Teréðori interior. One of the membership is believed to have returned from the adventure years later, surfacing in Ezmir without her cloak and any memory of her past. While wearing the cloak and hood, the wearer cannot be struck in the head. While the hood is raised, the wearer gains a Will bonus against mind-affecting magics (including Blood Magic). While the hood is raised, the use of Blood Magic is similarly impossible. (4 lb)
  • Cloak of Shadows. A bright red cloak with a metal brooch where is set a multi-faceted smoky quartz stone in a mechanical setting. When the stone is turned one notch, surrounding shadows flood into the threads of the cloak turning it and its wearer deep black. The overall effect is that the wearer may more ably hide and move in shadows. When the wearer moves, the cloak leaves a shadowless patch behind which is sometimes noticeable (until the cloak’s effect ends). The cloak appears to have been woven by Gnor Weavers for a Yrūni client. The mechanical brooch appears Roðite in construction and much older (circa 3rd century DR) than the cloak itself, though is not a typical product for the cult. Recently (652 DR) the cloak came into the hands of Tressta of Taldàna who had the stone replaced at ‘s Kyard that same year. When activated, the cloak confers a bonus to hiding and allows the wearer to move at normal walking speeds while concealed. Each use of the cloak drains the “smoke” from the quartz stone. When the quartz becomes clear, the stone must be traded with an expertly cut replacement. The cloak offers no addition to defense other than that gained from by near total darkness. (3 lb)
