Bastard Swords

  • Jandànar. A holy bastard sword of Orynder with the ability to determine guilt and innocence, Jandànar was forged in the early 2nd century DR by the master swordsmith Koróllō and wizard Talggar near the kingdom of Olood in eastern Teréðor. The sword was created for Orynder paladin-lord Karrant the Just and was buried with him in 204 DR. Endren’s Seven happened across the hidden tomb in 647 DR and when the sarcophagus opened to Endren’s touch it was determined that the blade had chosen its next owner. During ritual judgment the sword “dances” and may detect lies, striking once per falsehood uttered by deceivers. Against those that lie during judgment, the sword acts as a bane weapon.
  • Ðard Sword. A masterwork bastard sword fashioned in Oð before the Fall of the Empire. A handful of these swords have survived to the present, for the most part they were destroyed during the Eylfāri occupation of the 1st century DR. Most that have survived were at one point interred with officers that died before the end of the war. Bastard swords by nature are knightly weapons and carrying them is a sign of status in many Dekàli societies. Recently, such a sword was presented to Jak of Cænden by the Urdàri Queen during his knighting. Thereafter, Jak presented himself to the High Lord of Oð who explained that the sword had belonged to his Ðard, who was killed by Lady Nolda. No details of the sword’s magics were divulged.

Falchions

  • Tyv Tulm. (Throatcutter) A 3rd century Sha’al falchion forged on the isle of Thal’ába by the swordsmith Sharésra’am for the assassin Shir’amir. The blade has been linked to the deaths of several 3rd century nobles in Iridth and Jædð, before disappearing for almost 300 years. The next mention of the sword was half-way across the world, in Oð when it was to be auctioned in 637 DR. The auction never took place because the sword was stolen from the vaults of the Merchants’ Guild. History states that the sword’s edge sought out the throats of its victims. Circa 652 DR, the sword was picked from the corpse of Worron, an agent of the Fat Man, and is now possessed by Jak of Cænden.

Greatswords

  • Phlōgòstraça. (Firetongue) A long heavy Yrūni blade crafted in the Dekàli city-state of Viríllis circa 757 HK for use in the Battle of the Black Forest. The sword was first wielded by Karék Mandôn, a captain in the Dekàli army. Following Mandôn’s death in 761 HK, his son carried the blade into Black Illis where he and sword disappeared. The sword reappeared over 200 years later in Tarántis where it was purchased by a ship merchant and taken to Æzàlar. In Æzàlar the sword was kept on display at a weapon dealer’s shop for nearly 20 years before an anonymous purchase. The sword was granted by Izzàradràgulð to Silda of Wurm in 653 DR. On a to-hit roll of 3 or 4 a flame issues forth along the blade’s length dealing an additional 1d hit points of damage for 2d combat rounds. If another critical is scored in that time, the flame’s lifespan is extended for another 1d rounds. The blade has no known drawbacks, but does grow hot to the touch in combat.

Layvihra (Katana)

  • Lāyvìhra of Sulvynar. A long heavy Eylfāri sword with a slight curve and perfect balance, the faces of this lāyvìhra are engraved with lines of Eylfāri skulls; typical of ancestral swords. Recently, the sword was wielded by Illàrzur Sùlvynar. The ancient blade has been handed down through many generations of this Nehkrul Neylfèrahl family. The sword was crafted from Eylfāri steel at the dawn of the Third Age by Ellèra Nūrzàrkyl, a legendary Nehkrul swordsmith. The sword is significant because it was the last blade that Nūrzàrkyl forged before completing his life’s masterpiece, the Five Sisters.

Longswords

  • Heartsword. Heartswords are presented to Ðardram upon their elevation to the Order of the Heartguard.
    • Type: Broadsword (BASp271)

  • Iskàravor. Iskàravor is a relic of Calsàdor, carried by all its past heroes. Should a defender die, the sword chooses another to take its place. New defenders are compelled to return to Calsàdor where they undergo the Ritual of the Defender. Recently, the sword chose Mishàra as the new Defender of Calsàdor. The most potent ability of the sword is called Battle Fury. If the wielder’s side is outnumbered 2 to 1 he gets an additional attack each round, if the wielder’s side is outnumbered 4 to 1 he gets an additional two attacks each round, if the wielder’s side is outnumbered 8 to 1 he gets an additional three attacks each round, et al. A character engaged in Battle Fury is restricted in his actions as if he was a berserker.
  • Sword of Rott. A plain but magnificently crafted sword with a dark metal blade that has been carried by the High Lords of Oð since the reign of Mothrim the First (303-349 DR). Few High Lords have chosen to bear what is accepted as the family blade, but it is present during coronations. The sword was presented to Mothrim by the priests of Roð who discovered it within the bowels of the Kyrm Oryroð. The priests’ divinations could not reveal its history, a fact that intrigued Mothrim. After many years with the sword at his side, Mothrim claimed that the sword could speak with him and he conferred with it on many occasions. Mothrim was found dead in his nightshirt with the sword in his grasp, blood was strewn throughout his bed chambers but no wounds were found on the High Lord.
  • Ūðàrad. (Sword of Bōcor, Yrūnbane). Bōcor of Targan was a wizard who occupied his time by collecting cadavers and building servants from their pieces (rf. The Assembled). Depictions (there are two) of the magician portray him with the sword at his belt, but no surviving stories detail its use. A painting of the magician used to hang within the Targan Tavern, but that was last seen years ago, before the killings of 649 DR. Another portrait of Bōcor has been reported in a “Book of Wizards” within the Iron Library. The sword is constructed of Eylfāe steel, but is crafted in the Yrūni style; the Eylfāe do not typically make longswords. These details may date the sword to the time of the Occupation (i.e., 1st century DR). An opaque blue stone sits in the pommel. The Sword of Bōcor was most recently recovered from Uruss by Jak of Cænden in 652 DR, after the ending of the Curse of Nekùlðe. In the hands of a Nehkrul Neylfèrahl, the blue stone softly illuminates a 5 foot radius area and becomes a bane sword versus Yrūn.

Short Swords

  • Skāéldyðōel. A beautiful Feyri blade of expert craftsmanship. Subtle alloy patterns in the blade depict the distorted images of screaming women (i.e., Bāén Fel). Inscribed in Femh Noyd along the curving cross-guard is the word “Skāéldyðōel”. The name probably belongs to either the sword’s maker or its original owner. When the sword is at rest (e.g., sheathed, laying on a table, dropped) it is invisible to non-Feyri. Only when the blade is grabbed by a Feyri does it become visible. If grabbed by a non-Feyri, the sword’s disadvantages are activated. Infrequently, the sword shimmers with a dazzling display of scintillating colored light; it is unclear what prompts this effect. The scintillation only occurs when the sword is held by a Feyri. The display is only visible to those with Feyri-sight.
    • Type: Cutlass (BASp273)
    • Maker: Unknown
    • Quality: Fine Feyrul
    • Advantages: MAGp65 Puissance +1; MAGp65 Ghost Weapon; Unknown
    • Disadvantages: Unknown
  • Shakal. (Ripper) A short toothed sword of Urdàri construction. It is easy to mistake Shakal for something other than a sword, due to the splayed squared flanges along its blade. The sword is unwieldy and doesn’t cut as much as it rips into flesh. Furthermore, the blade is designed to hold a dose of poison for extended periods. Oily poisons are preferred as they do not dry as quickly. The Urdàric word “shakal” is scratched into the flat of the blade. These foul swords are sometimes used by Poisoners. Recently, a Shakal blade was found on a Werrid assassin in the Oðári Barrens. The sword cannot be sheathed. All poisons applied to the blade are harder to resist due to the ragged wounds the blade creates.
    • Type: Shortsword (BASp273)1
    • Maker: …, Urdàri construction
    • Quality: Good iron
    • Advantages: MAGp65 Puissance +2
    • Disadvantages: Becomes Unready after each attack
    • Notes: 1As Shortsword but unwieldy
  • Urmòr Merd. (Red Pain) A fine curved blade and ornate scabbard. Close inspection reveals dull red veins in the blade’s dark metal. Should the scabbard be unstitched one would find the inside is marked with nine red runes that glow deeply when near the sword blade. These runes give the sword its power. Without them, the sword becomes nothing more than a mundane but quality weapon. The sword itself was forged from the armor of a soldier that had been tortured for one hundred days. The soldier’s body was slowly lowered into the molten forge, becoming one with the iron. The cast bars were taken to a master Kændàli smith and fashioned into a masterwork blade ca. 320 DR. The blade was then presented to the Eldran magus Lorákir in 322 DR who imbued the scabbard with the necessary runes. Each rune was drawn with living Feyri blood. Urmòr Merd has had many wielders in the last few centuries and has found its way from Kændal to Olood, where it was the blade of a bandit lord in the 5th century DR, to Taldàna. When the sword is drawn it coruscates with red electricity. Whenever a person is struck by Urmòr Merd, they must make a Health check or suffer a temporary loss of Strength, Dexterity and Health. This effect reflects the pain with which the sword wracks its victims. Though the effects are cumulative with repeated strikes, they do not exceed a maximum of 4 points per ability score. The sword radiates evil, but has no intelligence.

    • Quality: Fine steel
    • Advantages: MAGp65 Accuracy +1; MAGp36 Pain (HT) (Regular, Resisted by HT)
