Lūn

Lake Ogres

Græl watched in horror as the Ogdàryr carried his family into the water. He had remained hidden in a barrel during the whole encounter and could still hear their screams as the monsters had punched and clawed their way through the doors and walls. He had been playing in the stable when they arrived and had been too frightened to warn anyone of their advance. Now, as the last of the green monsters disappeared beneath the water’s surface, his family was gone. Stepping dumbly from his hiding place he surveyed the result of the destruction he had heard. The family cottage was ripped open like a soap wrapper, the stable was flattened, and the well had been kicked in. Emerging from behind a low wall on the far side of the yard, his youngest sister Elmæ crawled from another hiding place. She also stood and stared at their home, and could not find the tears to cry.

Physiology

The skin of the Ogdàr Lūn is covered with small flexible scales that range in color from an dull aquamarine to an olive green. Their eyes are black and their bodies hairless. Their hands and feet wide, long, and webbed to give them better speed and maneuverability in the water. Although the Ogdàr Lūn do not breathe underwater, they are able to hold their breath for long intervals.

Psychology

As is common with Ogdar, the Ogdàr Lūn have very primitive emotional needs. They are quick to anger and prefer to settle disputes with combat until their opponent submits. The Ogdàr Lūn are devious to a point, and will often submit to a better only to wait for an opportunity to reverse the tables.

Ogdàr Lūn have little compassion for non-Ogdar races and see no problem with corralling them for the purposes of slavery or food. The Ogdàr Lūn intolerance of the Zultàya usually stems for a resource competition, not mishandled social interaction or history.

Culture

Ogdàr Lūn dens are usually accessible by means of underwater entrances. Because of the beings’ requirement to stay wet, these dens are almost always partial submerged. Particularly long submerged entrances make it very difficult for slaves and “cattle” to escape. For this reason, Ogdàr Lūn are common in areas riddled with sea caves, porous cliffs, or large reefs.

Unlike the other Ogdar species, it is not uncommon for the Ogdàr Lūn to live in extended family groups. It is not known whether this is due to a social need or the result of their restrictive living requirements. Large Ogdàri Lūn groups are often led by a Chieftain or Chieftainess which is typically the largest and strongest member of the group. The control held by the Chieftain is tenuous at best unless the leader is present or all members have a single popular goal (e.g., protection of the lair, retrieving food).

The Ogdàr Lūn create no artwork and build only primitive structures when it is necessary. Weapons are of the Stone Age equivalent.

Language

As with most Ogdar, the Ogdàr Lūn speak variants of Ogdàric.
