Ogres

Although the origin of the Ogdar is not clear, there are many parallels between them and the preternatural Jōtun.

• Ogdàr Lūn (i.e., lake Ogdar)

Considered by many to be the most primitive of the Mortal races, the Ogdar walk a narrow margin between Awakened and Bestial. Exceptions to this stereotype are the elusive Ogdàr Drū and the hirsute and erudite Grūmun. Most sages do the Grūmun favor by listing them separately, often without the Ogdar prefix.

Physiology

The typical Ogdar is almost twice the height of an adult Yrūn and strong as an ox. Their misshapen bodies bulge with an irregular muscularity that belies their coordination and speed. The Ogdar forehead slopes to a heavy brow ridge undermined by deep set eyes. Slack mouths often display a threatening array of sharp teeth and black gums.

All sub-races of Ogdar seem prone to a number of variations that occur within the race. These permanent variations seem to be caused by exposure to Chaos during an Ogdar’s early development.

Ogdàrak

Ogdàrak are multi-headed Ogdar. They are also known as Ettin.

Gargdar

Gargdar are giant Ogdar. They sometimes reach sizes that are 3-5x the height of an adult Yrūn.

Psychology

Ogdar are very emotional, tending toward violent.

In addition to rampant violence, most Ogdar are hyper-sexual. It is not uncommon for Ogdari marauders to engage in the wanton rape of people and livestock when moving through a region. The creatures seem indiscriminate about whether they prefer women, men, or animals as long they achieve some release. Though the behavior is probably connected with their insatiable drive toward dominance, the result is both unpleasant and often injurious to the victims.

Culture

Language

Most Ogdar speak variants of Ogdàric. This language is highly variable due to a lack of written rules, songs, and literature. The Ogdar of one region may speak a handful of different versions of the same language. Perhaps due to the simplicity of Ogdàric however, translation between these dialects is not difficult despite great distances.

Religion

Most Ogdar worship a pantheon of gods known collectively as the “The Walking Gods”. Ogdar religion is not like that of the Yrūni Cults. “The Walking Gods” are Ogdar heroes from antiquity whose spirits are believed to roam the world to visit misfortune upon the weak and unworthy. The Ogdàri gods do no favors for their worshipers, except to spare them from their wrath. The only exception to this is the goddess Drakrach which leads Ogdar marauders to bountiful farmlands and hunting grounds.
