Introduction

Ilyzūygol is a sea-spirit that is worshiped by the Ēōyn of Northern Ildûn.

Zelyr (of the Widrym) was a pirate in the pre-Dekàlas period, though exactly when he lived is unknown. During the time of the Old Empire, the story was rewritten to portray him as a Lanàtyr raider, but there is no historical evidence to support this. The story of Zelyr has been passed down within the Henge of Ilyzūygol for over 2,000 years. It is important to the Henge because of its detailed descriptions of the spirit-god. In the story, Zelyr’s ship was dashed against off-shore rocks and the crew lost to sea. Zelyr, a worshiper of Ilyzūygol, was taken to the sea’s floor and given audience before the great sea-spirit. The sea-spirit offered the Mortal a great task to destroy the ships and ports of those who refused to honor Ilyzūygol, and to reward those who honored the old pacts. To execute this task, Zelyr was given two great artifacts. The first was called the Horn of Waves. When the horn sounded, the ocean would rise up against the offending people or places. The second was called the Horn of Bounty. When this horn sounded, the ocean would offer up all manner of bounty to the fishers of the place, filing their traps and nets for seasons to come.

Places of Worship

In the Widrèwyr town of Eswyrym a temple stands stands off the coast; the waves crash between its ancient columns. The temple of Ilyzūygol was once a great marketplace that brimmed with the bounties of the sea. Shortly after the conquering of Ildûn by the Dekàlyr, the Pryr Ilyzūygol stopped making sacrifices to the Sea Father, keeping the coin and produce for themselves. In retribution for this heresy, an earthquake struck the coast of Widrèwyr and many towns and people were swept into the sea. The only reminder of the ancient coastline is the Temple of Ilyzūygol. In current times, temple ceremonies are held upon a barge which is poled to the site of the sunken temple. During these monthly gatherings, the faithful assemble nearby in canoes and fishing boats.
