  Introduction

  Galrydā was revered in two different ages, for two main reasons. To the Urzàryr, she was the rebellious daughter of Gardaz, the Father God. This was not a respected position within the pantheon. She was honored by runaways, outcasts, mendicants, and others of ill-repute. The reason for leaving her father’s household is unknown, but stories of her running and hiding from the great god revealed great cunning. Urzàri priests were quick to point out that her intelligence was untempered by wisdom. Galrydā was later “reborn” within the Jorni Pantheon, as the wife of Jorn, the North Father. The Pryr Jorn downplayed her rebellious history in a number of ways. First, Galrydā’s presence brought both credibility and separation from the old religion. As the daughter of Gardaz, she was encumbered with the power of the ancient gods. As the wayward daughter of Gardaz, she represented the need to abandon the old regime. Second, whereas Galrydā could not be tamed by the great Father God, her husband Jorn was able to control and shape her into a shining symbol of the motherhood.
