Urvàrdar

Minor Neðérim

“In recent memory, one of the largest manifestations of Neðérim occurred in the Autumn of 653 DR at the City of Nōyn Dag. Though details are still unclear, it is evident that city cultists attempted a massive Inkàðura breach. Using a twelve-pointed diagram powered with the spirits of murdered Feyri, the group erected a web of magical lines through which Urvàrdar could enter the city. The details about this web can only be speculated. It is believed that due to an economy of available power, the Neðérim invasion was limited by a system of exchanges wherein hapless members of the city’s population were swapped with creatures from beyond the Kyuràda Vor. Most notable among the losses was a priest engaged in a public ceremony. Onlookers watched with horror as the man was drawn through a vaporous curtain and replaced with a Neðérim of large size. Those that survived the wedding reported that the Vardar-esque monster immediately set upon those gathered and killed dozens before guards could intervene. No reports were issued of effects the event may have had on Eyn Tirwyn. The total toll of the event may never be known. A count of Urvàrdar corpses proved impossible once the bodies began to self-immolate. The subterranean Gnor Dul, known enemies of the Feyri, have denied any part in the event.”

Physiology

Urvàrdar are large bipedal insects that stand half-again the normal Yrūni height. They have hard chitinous exoskeletons over their entire body except their wings and eyes. Their carapace is covered with subtle but elaborate markings that are common to allNeðérim. Urvàrdar strike at their opponents with their powerful mandibles, preferring to first grapple victims with their strong claws. Their claws are prehensile but clumsy, allowing crude manipulation of tools and weapons. It is uncertain whether the Urvardar are intelligent enough to engage in tool-use. Another favorite attack is a devastating charge, whereby the large monsters slam into their prey with great speed and strength. Their translucent wings are not large or strong enough to allow the Urvàrdar to fly, but do allow for limited gliding and provide lift during long leaps.

Adult Urvàrdar average about 9 ft. in height and weigh about 300 lb. Their life expectancy is unknown.

Psychology

Not much is known around Urvàrdar intelligence. Most Neðérim seem to have a slave mentality, blindly following the orders of greater Neðérim. The creatures are capable of reason, but are completely unmotivated by fear or mortality. The overriding instinct of the Urvàrdar seems to be hunger.

Culture

Language

The Urvàrdar seem to understand the Neðérim language Neðàric, but are incapable of speaking the same. Communication between the Urvàrdar sounds similar to the Ikìtikírittìk tongue, Iqít-ti. It is not known whether Urvàrdar have names.
