Ilûmtrū

Elemental Form of Light

Long shadows of the prince’s men crossed the throne-room floor in the evening’s light. The king lowered his head, knowing that the usurpation was nearly complete. His heart was a stew of regret, self-pity, and pride for the young man’s accomplishment. He had schooled him well. No father could be more proud. Standing, he took the precious crown from his head and placed it on the throne. He could already feel the weightless relief from his head and shoulders. The prince would rule well in his stead. Behind the throne, the king passed through a small door and disappeared into the walls of the castle. Far above the departing king, the prince stepped into the throne room as the gathering shadows vanished. He grabbed the crown and waited, there would be no point in crowning himself until witnesses arrived.

Ilûmtrū is the magic of light, dark, and shadows. Elementally, Ilûmtrū is most closely akin to Noltrū and Phlōgòstrū. Magicians of this Form have shown the ability to forge burning spears from focused light and to cancel daylight with a swallowing void. Attribution of dark and light Ilûmtrū specializations to a moral compass is misguided.

In addition to manipulations of light and dark, the Ilûmtryr are proficient illusionists (mūátra Ilûmtrū). Ilûmtri illusions are fashioned from existing light or darkness. Illusions of Ilûmtrū are strictly visual. Audible, olfactory, and tactile illusions are beyond the scope of the Ilûmtrū Form. Ilûmyr wishing to produce simulacra (i.e. illusions designed for all senses) must prepare contingencies (chained from a trigger spell) or use a magical item that can produce a composite effect. Simulacra require a great deal of planning and cannot be created extemporaneously.
