Dark

The Dark Gods of Teréth End have wide and varied followings throughout the Five Lands. Though the appeal of these Cults is not well understood, they are often pervasive enough to cross boundaries of geography, race, and politics. It has been suggested that the Cults appeal to a sense of empowerment to those within the the lower strata of society, from where most have no alternatives or prospects. Many Dark Cults promise the power and support necessary to enable the disenfranchised to step outside of society’s framework. The promise of advancing beyond one’s station is a powerful incentive for those without prospects. Though this explanation does not necessarily address the appeal to nobles and others in positions of power, it does help explain how some Cults attract such large numbers of followers.
