Hideworker

No one is friends with the Hideworker. Typically, the Hideworker’s shop stands apart from the rest of the community due to the noxious odors that arise from the work. A successful Hideworker has a steady stream of hunters and trappers bringing dried and stiff pelts to his door. Skins are soaked in water until soft and then scoured until clean of gore. Once the fat and blood is removed, the hair is then stripped from the skins with washes of urine or lime. Once the skins are clean, they are soaked in an animal brain solution or kneaded in a dog dung bath until supple. Tannins are then brushed across the skins to preserve and give the leather color. Children are often employed as dung gatherers and piss-pot collectors.

Hides

Animal hunting and trapping is carefully regulated in most territories where nobles claim wilderness privileges. Anyone wishing to make a go at this occupation, would be well warned to check with the local Hideworker on local laws and the claims of other trappers. In many locations, trapping on another man’s claim confers reasonable right to kill. The following are retail prices for hides.
