Kryr Trèmendūm

Castle of the Thundering Mountain

Kryr Trèmendūm was once a massive fortification standing upon the southern slopes of Tor Trèmendūm, the dormant volcano for which it is named. A rambling structure of curtain walls, elaborate buttresses, soaring towers, and countless monuments, the castle is now a shadow of its former splendor. The ruins still overlook the walled port Lanàdus from its lofty perch among the island clouds, but many of the walls and towers have crumbled into hills of rubble at the mountain’s base. In it’s day, the castle hosted a combination of many styles constructed (and rebuilt) over thousands of years. The architectures represented both the march of time and armies, with many of the structures having been deconstructed in conquered lands and reassembled on the sheer cliffs of Tor Trèmendūm.

Over the centuries, the base of the castle has been repaired and continues to be home to the island’s Lord and family. Slowly the islanders have sought to rebuild Kryr Trèmendūm but have found again and again, that there are secrets of the old construction that escape their engineers (mage and mundane) today. Some have suggested that a campaign be launched to find the faraway City of Oð, and return with the craftsmen of Roð and an army of Dwürdèni engineers. These ideas have been repeated many times by many people over the years, but the expert and material costs are too great. Finding the old quarries is imperative to any reconstruction for the mountains that cross the isle of Lanàdus cannot be mined with known techniques and magics.
