Most of Lāllan’s spells are thought to have originated sometime in the 10th century HK, during his tenure at the Magician’s Academy of Gidðir, Kændal. Following the Third Battle of Gidðir in 88 DR, a trove of books were recovered from the ruins of an ancient stone school, razed centuries earlier. The books had been compiled by the Headmaster of the academy during his long tenure, 917-981 HK. Advisors accompanying the Kændàlan army recognized the importance of the find immediately, and the books were sent to the capital. The shipment never arrived. A total of sixty-two spells are believed to have been “lost” in this manner. Within four years, pieces of the collection began appearing at booksellers and auction houses throughout the Old Empire.

The Headmaster’s name was Arddùradàgus Lāllan, renowned among Arcane Circles as one of the most prolific writers of magic in the 10th century HK. Surviving testaments from both students and colleagues of Lāllan told a different story. They painted Headmaster Lāllan as a fraud, claiming that the magician abused the notion of Headmaster’s Privilege by attaching his own name to the works of others at the academy. Lāllan was so unpopular in fact, that following his death his body was stolen from the school crypt and replaced with a note that read: “Lāllan’s Disappearing Corpse”.
