Master Ðag

Captain of the Margrū

  • Born: 615 DR
  • Died: Alive

Ðag grew up in the Pastàri coastal town of Bærin. His father and grandfathers had fished the coastal waters for untold generations. At the age of 16, Ðag purchased an old boat and began casting nets of his own. One Flald afternoon in 633 DR, he heard yelling from another ship. Ðag hauled his nets in, hoisted his sails, and went to investigate. As he approached he saw fighting aboard one of the other fishing boats. Drawing closer, he saw that the enemy was not Yrūn and that similar fights were happening on other boats. Just then something struck his boat. Looking around he saw a webbed hand grab the bulwark and a inhuman pale eyes taking his measure. Though Ðag did not know about Aqōlàhqbāryr at the time, he grabbed a gutting knife and slashed at the monster’s face. The thing gave out a horrible scream that made the other creatures stop and look toward Ðag’s boat. As the thing flailed backward into the waves, the young fisherman steered his craft toward the nearest boat, leaping to the assistance of an old fisherman. He reached two more boats before the creatures retreated. In the end, four fishermen were killed, two Aqōlàhqbāryr escaped, and one was killed. Ðag and his father carried the Aqōlàhqbāe corpse to shore and then took their cargo to Lord Bærin. Within days, a Castrìni emissary arrived to interview the survivors. For uncommon valor and killing an Eylfāe, the emissary conveyed the Crowns’ thanks and granted Ðag admittance to the Pastàri Naval College. He graduated in 635 DR as a Naval officer. He served in the Crowns’ Navy for 10 years before getting his captaincy aboard the Margrū.

Tressta’s notes: Ship’s captain that plies coast from Oð to Kændal. Late-thirties, thin man with gray hair, wore a black scarf wrapped around head, with black and red clothes. He was very particular about having his black leather boots shined by the cabin boy. Ðag made it possible for Tressta to reach Oð via an exchange of services. He spoke often of distant lands and legends of faraway people. When Tressta departed the Margrū aboard a longboat, Master Ðag gave her a gold ring with a blue seastone in the band and wished her luck. The ring was later stolen by her manager, Tyrána, when she once returned without a negotiated payment from a customer who “couldn’t pay”.
