Elemental Form of Water

The strength of rain, streams, rivers, and oceans may be summoned by Weavers of Mærū.

Historically, some of the most terrible spells cast have originated from this magic art. Cities have been erased by mighty waves, armies rendered blind and immobilized by driving rains, fleets have been lost to storms from Mærū and Or Noltrū.

The faithful of Drāūn believed that rain carried the souls of the departed to the River of the Dead. Priests of the Cult commanded water magics and used it to wipe battlefields clean of lingering souls, too confused to know it was time to being their journey.

Of all the forms of magic, Mærū most closely resembles the natural state of swirling dimensionless Chaos. This may explain why magic and water interact so seamlessly. Most elementalists will attest that the energies required to animate Teréðrū or control Phlōgòstrū far exceed the gentle pushes needed to control water. This ease of control is attributed to the likeness of the states of liquid and Chaos.

• Raincrystal. Every raindrop that falls is identical to a countless number of other raindrops. Mæryr believe that within those raindrops exist a vanishingly small number of raincrystals, small naturally-occurring crystal raindrops. The exact scarcity of these crystals is unknown, but is believed to be nearly one per billion, if not more. Another factor that contributes to the rareness of these crystals is the fact that if a raincrystal strikes a hard surface, they shatter into dust. Collecting raincrystals therefore is a challenging endeavor. Arcanists seeking these objects, have been known to construct elaborate arcane nets that filter the rain from any crystals that might fall. A crystal net spread across a pasture may catch a single raincrystal during a day’s soaking rain. Raincrystals are believed to aid in the Weaving of Mæri spells and protections.
