Old Empire, The Dreaming Kingdom
Jædð (Nor Kàlas Jædð) is one of two Old Empire city-states that lay on the continent of Tassèrus. The Dreamlands state rests within a tropical basin, ringed by the Mar Dekàli and the Tor’n Bèsūdra. These natural barriers (and a number of unnatural ones) have shielded the state from outside influences for hundreds of years. The only part of Jædð that lies outside of the Dreamlands is the Peráram Coast, a region that hosts the oldest Yrūn settlements in the state.

Peasant Burials
The poor and homeless of Jædð are often deposited at death in the rivers of the Run Sùlūð. The main reason for this practice is it is the least costly means of disposal. Wildlife within the river does not permit corpses (or living bodies) to survive long in the dark waters. Another reason for river internment is that the Dreamland river is considered the domain of the Dagàri, much like the flowering forests belong to the Jargað. Those who have died destitute and alone have not found the peace of Sūdul, and must therefore be remade following complete absorption into the Dream.
History
The settlement of Æva Tereð (new land) was founded in 92 HK (over 100 years before the founding of Jædð) by Lanàdi explorer Olluk Peráram. The earliest buildings were constructed by white Sha’al who had been furnished for the purpose of erecting an Yrūn embassy south of the Run Sùlūð. When word returned to Lanàdus that Peráram had made peaceful contact with the Sha’al, an ambassador and his cohorts arrived in 95 HK to exchange gifts and discuss terms for establishing a small Dekàli colony.
By 98 HK, a small colony had emerged between the embassy and the mouth of the Run Sùlūð. The colonists arrived quickly, criminals and settlers shipped from turbulent Æzàlar. Inevitable land right disputes triggered skirmishes along the colony borders. The Sha’al were perplexed by the “civilized” Yrūn and their cavalier disregard to established pacts. In 105 HK, nearly three dozen settlers were found slaughtered at their borderland farms. The colony magistrate blamed the Sha’al which claimed no responsibility for the murders.
In the year 106 HK the first Dekàli troops arrived at Æva Tereð. Skirmishes continued for about a year before the Sha’al ceded the region to Dekàli rule. Another pact was signed granting a larger area, still shy of the Run Sùlūð. The magistrate arranged marriages between the scattered indigenous Yrūn and the colonists, securing ties with the natives.
In 113 HK, the High Queen Ānùrēa I turned her attentions to expanding Æva Tereð, seeking to carve a new resource-rich city-state on the continent Tassèrus. Twenty galleys sailed from Æzàlar and Lanàdus. The colony magistrate of Æva Tereð explained to the war generals that the most valuable land in the Dreamlands was at the mouth of the Run Sùlūð. He told them of an ancient city that was sacred to the Sha’al. Rather than attack the city directly, the generals turned south of the colony, seeking to sever the Dreamlands Sha’al from possible support from the Vast Untamed. The serpent-folk of Sha’ala rallied against this action, and resisted the Dekàlyr for almost eighty years before retreating farther into the Scaled Lands. By 180 HK, the southern border of the Colony of Æva Tereð was secured, but Dekàli soldiers and resources were exhausted. More men would be needed to press north toward Elnàdra.
In 194 HK, the Wizard High Queen Avàlðiran III arrived in Æva Tereð with an armada of warships and a cohort of magicians. Great galleys of refugees, criminals, and outcasts arrived soon thereafter, the empire having emptied every prison, dungeon, asylum, and poor house to support the effort. Teams of magicians visited each ship before they were permitted to dock, weaving powerful Kadàktrū magics over the unsuspecting passengers. In this manner, Avàlðiran III assembled a massive slave army to crush the Sha’al. Though mostly untrained and poorly equipped, the slave warriors pushed north toward the Run Sùlūð. Though they died in droves, the unthinking slaves pushed deeper into Sha’ali territory with each passing day. At the Sha’ali sacred city, the Dekàlyr met fierce resistance.
Sha’ali records of the First Battle of Elnàdra describe the defenders’ horror as the relentless march of Yrūni “soldiers” threw themselves against the city’s defenses. The Sha’al were dumbfounded and sickened by the thoughtless slaughter. The First Battle lasted two days before the regular Dekàli army began its attack from the east with the support of warships in the Bay of Jarjat. After five days of siege, the surviving Sha’al retreated into the Dreamlands jungle. The battle was won. The High Queen arrived at Elnàdra, prepared to declare victory and grant amnesty to all that had served her. When the slaves were “unbound” however, they were horrified by the surrounding massacre. Weapons in hand, the slave army turned against the Dekàlyr and the Second Battle of Elnàdra was engaged. The untrained slaves were no match for the Dekàli regulars however, and Avàlðiran III’s army shredded the disorganized forces. When reports of the Battle of Elnàdra reached Sha’ala, Elnàdra was surrendered.
Avàlðiran III spent nearly two years in Jædð, preparing the state for admission into the empire. In 197 HK, she crowned the magistrate of Æva Tereð, Lord Kalzàr Iridð the First, as King Kalzàr Sulūð of Jædð.
