The Restless are beings whose spirits are trapped within the Living Realm through unnatural means.
Though Restless appears to be a Created condition, the “creatures” included in this category are not a race and are not necessarily sentient. The Restless cannot propagate through biological means, though some (i.e., Ghûls) may impart their necromantic state by injecting victims with Black Ichor. This ephemeral liquid is not organic and flows within most Restless, in varying degrees. Black Ichor binds itself to a spirit, irrevocably transforming the creature’s life energy. The result is soul death, or undeath.
Preventing a spirit from continuing to its Eternal Reward or Punishment is considered heresy by most Cults. Many Cults similarly disapprove of magical animation, even if the spirit’s journey is unhindered. Animation however is not the same as Restlessness. Basic skeleton and corpse animations do not require a spirit. These are are necromantic constructs, not Restless. Some believe that as long as the Mortal vessel is maintained, the spirit has a tie to the living world.

Black Ichor
Black Ichor has fluid-like properties but cannot exist long outside a host. Once a host is rendered nonviable, the liquid leaves the vessel through available egresses as a putrescent vapor. This vapor is still dangerous until it attains a wide dissipation. Necromancers have successfully collected these vapors and distilled Black Ichor from them.
