Shaman

Eulygryn the Blue was a prominent Oðàri magician in the 6th century DR. During her lifetime, she credited her magical interests to growing up in the Town of Loston, a day’s walk north of the City of Oð. There among the Nar Drūden and lakeside Slaves, she was introduced to the wonders of magic and mystery at an early age. Her first lessons in magic followed an attempt to runaway to the City at the age of eleven. Crossing through the forest to avoid people traveling the road, she became lost in the old Northwoods. After several days of wandering aimlessly, she was discovered hungry and lost by an Urdàri shaman named Korfōgkir who welcomed her into his home. The shaman fed her and tended to injuries she’d occurred while traveling. During her recovery, she watched with fascination as the shaman went through his daily rituals meant to appease the forest spirits. After some negotiation, Korfōgkir agreed to house and teach Larynda for a time.

After a year, the shaman took Larynda to a great spirit rock where other shamans awaited. There she her knowledge was tested and she was admitted into their Circle. As a final step, she was tied to the spirit rock as the shaman’s proceeded to “carve” Spirit patterns into her arms and legs. This was Larynda’s first Wizardmaking. Following this initiation, she was able to Channel the Urdàri forest magics and continued to do so for several years. About the age of 16 she thanked Korfogkir and her Urdàri “family” and ventured south from Dnogos Gnot to the City of Oð.

Apprentice

Larynda arrived at the City of Oð in the Summer of 537 DR. After wandering throughout the Yrūn city for several days, she met a researcher in the Pryard who recognized her abilities, and was intrigued by her training by Urdàri shamans. Days later she was taken to Genter and introduced to members of the Circle of Ilvir. Larynda entered into an apprenticeship under Sholgzar of Kalðòram. Together they traveled widely throughout the region, collecting rare artifacts and manuscripts from Avàhrlyn to Ezmir.

During their travels Larynda gave birth to a young boy named Gyrend in 541 DR. The paternity of Gyrend was questioned by the Circle, with master Sholgzar offering no explanation of how his apprentice might have conceived the child. When questioned by the Circle, Larynda could offer no answer other than her handling of Feyri artifacts months before. This answer did not appease the Circle, and both the student and master were banished from the Circle of Ilvir, masters and apprentices being required to abide by ancient rules and customs that forbid fraternization. Sholgzar retired to his homeland of Kalðòram, where he took residence in a ruined manor. Larynda continued her lessons for several years until Sholgzar was content that she had learned all that he could teach. In 549 DR, he released Larynda from her apprenticeship. The magician returned to Loston with her son where family adopted the young boy.

Magician

Returning to the City of Oð, Larynda found employment with the Merchants’ Guild, who paid magicians well for myriad services. It was the Merchants’ Guild who commissioned the design and approval of her heraldic device in 555 DR for excellent service to the Guild. Her blazon was registered as: “Azure, a floating argent magician with arms displayed”. The presentation of this device earned her the epithet “Eulygryn the Blue”. It was conceived due to her ability to float above the Temple Square while she kept an eye on mercantile activities. The azure field is a bit of a misnomer since there had not been a blue sky over the Pryard in nearly 500 years (rf. The Wheel).
Eulygryn the Blue is most famous for compiling and composing a handful of Nol spells which were left for her only apprentice, Selúroð, upon her death in 573 DR.

Posterity

Though Eulygryn had only one apprentice, her thaumaturgic progeny are widespread due to his long and generous mentoring. Other than her apprentice Selúroð, the most notable person of this magical lineage is Ændròð of Oð.
