Dnurm

Town of Dnurm, Tzōjàkalajk’s Purchase

In centuries long past, this once flourishing community was a terminus for agricultural and mining caravans. Wagons heavy with ore were carted from the surrounding mountains. Carts brimming with harvest also converged here, pulled along long and rutted roads from the farmlands that once covered the fertile hills and valleys of Illûwyr. For three seasons each year, the place was filled with the din of auction houses, the murmur of stockyards, and the creak of straining wagons. Produce and materials were loaded onto barges and pulled down the river to the boroughs of Ildûn. In addition to commerce, the town once drew people from the rural corners of the region to visit shrines of Kændlan and Amra. The faithful were invited to pray for good harvests and offered marriage rites. All of this is of course prologue to the town that remains.

The ruins of Dnurm stand in central Illûwyr. Unnatural winds circle Dnurm’s ruins, fencing in a heavy cloud of dust that shrouds the stony ruins. From a distance the “town” appears to be a plateau of dust rising from the edge of the Falen Merdun. Travelers of the Waste stay upon the Blasted Road, and do not venture close to Dnurm for fear of its Restless residents.

Landmarks

  • Auction Stone. At the center of Dnurm is a natural stone pillar, once festooned with iron rings and chains. The focal point of a large outdoor bazaar, the Auction Stone was used to display goods and chattel. At some point during the wasting of Illûwyr, the stone became the focus of unworldly attentions. Today it is the seat of Tzōjàkalajk, a Yarðir with designs to establish a Nether realm in the Twilight World. The nature of Tzōjàkalajk’s appearance is a mystery. Whom or whatever is responsible for his Crossing is likely dead or enslaved.

Buildings

There are no standing buildings in Dnurm. Numerous stone foundations remain.
