Feyr

Changelings

Most people of the World of Teréth End have many stories regarding the Feyri, but fewer know of the Feyr. The Feyr are the children (or descendants of children) of the Feyri and another Mortal Race. Those who know of the Feyr tell of wild children who live on the forest’s edge preying deadly mischief upon the unwary. Others tell of aloof hermits sitting beside streams waiting for word from their Immortal parents, watching their beards and teeth growing long.

The most common hybrid of Feyr are between Feyri and Uren. Halver (i.e., Moele Toen) have also been cataloged.

Physiology

Although more sleight of built than their Mortal relatives, Feyr resemble their non-Feyri ancestors in most aspects. Their aura is another matter. The bright Feyr aura, detectable through standard divinations, betrays their Immortal ancestry. The Feyri are very sensitive to the Changeling aura and can spot one from far away. It is the aura of the Feyr that defines it. The Feyr aura will survive seven progeny regardless of generation. Therefore, a first generation Feyr that has five children, may only have one grandchild that is Feyr (usually the first born). If the seventh child is a twin, both children are born with the aura, but the Feyri soon come to claim the eighth as their own.

Another difference between Feyr and their non-Feyri relatives is their longevity. Unlike the immortal Eylfāe and Feyri who never seem to age beyond a certain point, the Feyr age like their mundane relatives, but over a much longer period. Feyr typically live up to three times the age of their non-Feyri ancestors, becoming very wrinkled and decrepit with time.

Feyr have a primary gender but are not limited by it. The only time which a Feyr is limited to one gender or another is during pregnancy. Either sex of the Feyr may become pregnant, but once in that state their gender is locked as female until the pregnancy ends.

Psychology

The Feyr appear and act as common members of their race, adopting all the qualities that allow them to meld into the non-Feyri culture. In addition, most Feyr have an unquenchable chaotic streak, inherited from their Feyri progenitor. This cyclical urge (based on the the phases of the moon Wōd) make even the most reserved and stable Feyr act irrationally. During this time, known among some Feyr as the “Quaking” (rf. Lyriddym). The afflicted Feyr become very emotional, prone to outbursts, and are sometimes violent. The magic of capable Feyr becomes most unpredictable during this time.

Culture

In most of Teréth End, the Feyr do not have their own culture. Among the remnants of Ēōyn culture in Ildûn however, they are recognized as exceptional.

Language

In most circumstances, Feyr learn the native tongue of their non-Feyri parent, unless the Feyri parent is present (very unlikely, unless imprisoned) during the child’s upbringing. The Feyr learn new languages (and music) very easily.

Magic

The Feyr are all about magic; it courses through their veins and bursts from every cell and bone in their bodies. Upon detection for magic on a Feyr, a chiaroscuro of swirling color and magics will be found as the Skein is twisted around the Changeling’s body. Sages that study the Feyr are very interested in this “vortex-effect”, especially if examined during Lyriddym. During Lyriddym, magical detections may locate a Feyr from very far away, as they shine particularly brightly during this time. A magician Feyr undergoing the Quaking may Weave spells with greater proficiency than normal during the full phase of Wōd, but suffer the effects of Feyri (wild) magic in the process (for the full phase and cusps). This effect is similar to that experienced by other magicians during the full phase of Mamra. Mamra has no effect on Feyr spell-casters, unless its phase coincides with Wōd.
