Shields
- Nehkrul Orzhat. A masterfully crafted wooden round shield. When an Ardùwū Nehkrul Neylfèrahl distinguished himself on the field of battle, they were sometimes recognized with a shield. This particular orzhat was presented by Valsàhdylàrayhn to the Eylfāe commander Erádai stationed near Oð during the Occupation. Erádai’s forces discovered and crushed nascent opposition in 16 DR. The shield was likely presented to her shortly thereafter. Erádai and her troops grew sick beneath the widening Wheel and were ambushed in a hollow near Ænth while retreating from its shadow. The details of this skirmish are lost, but it is still debated whether a group of Yrūn irregulars could have mounted an effective offense against Nehkrul Neylfèrahl infantry, even in their sickened state. It is not recorded whether Erádai survived the ambush or not. The shield surfaced one hundred years later in the possession of the Roð-Ættràkar priestess Kelzèrak. In 652 DR, the shield was removed from the Dwürden ruins of Kry Moradem by an Eylfāe archer Mishara, and again it has disappeared. Nehkrul Orzhat are typically small wooden round shields with mythrul ornamentation. The Orzhat of Erádai depicted of a leafless Mythrul tree. (6 lb)
- Shield of Argum the White. A beautifully crafted Dwürdeni large wooden kite shield with a steel boss riveted to its center (approximately 100 years before steel was developed by Pryr Roð). Though faded (but revealed with cleaning), the shield face is painted with two rampant bears. Engraved around the boss is archaic Dwürdèni lettering which reads, “Shield of Argum the White, King of Nurúmwar Gurm”. On the reverse side (in the wood) is the shield maker’s mark (crossed hammers inside a square and the letter “F”) and a Dwürdèni style date. The shield was stolen from the grave of Argum the White in the bowels of Krysùrgörnn, in Orid 652 DR. It was carried from the ruins by Saldùs Greymane of Bōttòn Liche, a soldier of the High Lord Edgur Rott of Oð after his group wrested it from the ancient remains of the King of Nurúmwar Gurm. The shield was coveted by Argum’s son Guum, who probably died when Nurúmwar Gurm was overrun by the Tarmàr Ort in 964 HK. The shield radiates a strong magic that was faintly detectable through the stone sarcophagus and interior lead coffin. No other properties of the shield are known. (8 lb)
