Vōdtin

The Judge, The Blinded Lady

Vodtin is the Dekàli aspect of justice. Though most lawful proceedings begin with an invocation of Irāyn, they are finalized with an invocation of Vodtin’s unerring wisdom. Vodtin appears as an older blind woman sitting with her head turned to one side, so that she can hear all arguments without prejudice. A terrible scar runs across her face from ear to ear, though her ears remain untouched. At her request, Vodtin was blinded by the ax of Merdred, so that she could know the pain and price of his punishments and fairly balance that knowledge against the cases brought before her. She is believed to guide the hearts and minds of judges, lords, and all those with authority over others.

The Order

  • Pryór Vodtin. A prestigious order of judges and litigants whose membership was once recognized throughout the Old Empire as the highest honor for lawmakers. Membership was granted to those persons that had shown great wisdom and uncompromising principles over the span of many years. Eligibility was determined by means of Orádra performed by priests of Irāyn. A person could only be nominated once. If the Irāynites rejected the nominee, that person would be forever barred from the Order. Members of the Ordùs Vōdtin wore an elaborate medallion and necklace over their official robes which granted them peerage (albeit landless) status and privilege within their given realm. Today, the Ordùs Vōdtin is recognized only in Lanàdus, Panæð, and Kændal.
