Spiritriders

For untold centuries, the Ælyryr have turned to an enigmatic order of horsemen to protect them from their enemies. The Spiritriders are believed to be all that remains of an ancient guard, once represented by elite fighting units fielded by each horse-clan kingdom. Today, the group is but a fraction of its former size and power. The organization is divided into local chapters (i.e., orders) which are centered around towns and shrines. In times of need, the orders have been known to unite. In recent memory, the Spiritriders have been credited with guerrilla-style tactics on Old Empire interests in northern Ildûn.

Many individuals and chapters of the order appear content with their role as defenders, rather than engaging in aggressive actions. Others are completely apolitical, selling their services to natives and foreigners as scouts and escorts through the hostile interior. Despite these disparities, it is believed that all Spiritriders are compelled to answer the “call” of the order should their services be needed.
