The name of Vargal is closely tied to the story of King Anðus of the Lanatar. Outside of this context, very little is known about this island-spirit. It was the prophecy of Vargal that set into motion the invasions that would culminate in the founding of the Old Empire. Despite this, there is little mention of the Seer after this message.

Today, on the southern shore of Lanàdus, there stand six stone stumps where columns once lined the entrance to a shallow cave. Within this cave, pilgrims would come to make an offering to the Eðir (i.e., Oracle) in hopes of receiving a vision of their future. Through the Mortal Eðir, the spirit was believed to give visions and dreams to commoners, but spoke words and riddles to nobles and kings. The quality of the visions may have had less to do with social status, and more to do with the quality of one’s offerings.

The identity of Vargal is a mystery. Some believe she was an island-spirit, tied in some arcane familial fashion to the greater-spirit Lanas. Others believe that Vargal was a Mortal with great vision, who continued her work after death. Others have posited that Vargal was a manifestation of Lanas herself. The truth may never be known. The tie to Lanas however, is supported by accounts that the Eðir wore a twelve-eyed robe.
