In games where the majority of characters have substantially higher CP totals than new characters, newer player characters (i.e., not NPCs) will gain a Parity Bonus each game session to bring them up to speed. No Parity Bonus is granted if no CPs are awarded to the group that game session. This bonus will boost new character CP awards by 50% (rounded down, minimum 1) until they reach a Threshold Level. The Threshold Level is equal to the average CP total of the established characters, rounded down to the nearest multiple of 25. Example: If the average CP total of the established characters was 230 CPs, the Threshold Level would be 225 CPs. If the new character starts out with 150 CPs, he would get a Parity Bonus until he reaches the current Threshold Level. Once a Threshold Level is reached, no further Parity Bonus may be gained.
The starting level for new characters is roughly 25 CPs below the CP total for the lowest level non-established character.
The purpose of this rule is to make new characters more relevant and powerful without disregarding or devaluing the work and time invested in older characters.
