Zalū

Zalūni Empire, The Land of Skulls

Zalū is known by many names. The region and its people have a reputation for warring against their neighbors and within their own borders. The reputation is well-deserved and culminated with the rise of Kujl Zjalū, the most famous warlord in a very long history of Burning Crescent warlords.

Kujl Zjalū stood atop the Mound of Kings and proclaimed himself Emperor of the Burning Crescent. Below him an army of ten thousand soldiers raised their swords and chanted his name. Triumphant horn blasts rose above the battlefield and throughout the towns and cities of the Four Lands.

Kujl Zjalū united the Four Lands in 4/1309 ER, giving birth to a long line of emperors known as the Sons of Emer. At the heart of this new Empire lay the land of Zalū, homeland of the great Kujl Zjalū. It was here in the ancient capital of Marádū that the Emperor built the first and greatest of his nine palaces.

History

Zalū is a sedimentary land composed of innumerable layers of Yrūni history. It was not far from here that the first Yrūni explorers set foot outside the Land of Emer in the Second Age. The people of the Burning Crescent and the Shūlū are thought to bear strong resemblances to those early refugees.
