Foreword

You have to pry the old man’s fingers from the leather cover. Each thin and wrinkled finger can be unhooked with a small, sharp snapping sound. An unintelligible whisper of protest issues from the old priest’s lips as his head collapses forward with a sickening crunch to the dusty desk top. Finding your own table, you crack open the volume and find that it includes all entries from Ba through Bu.

  • Bacrab (BA krahb); OOð. ( -652 DR) Strong baker’s apprentice who was captured, tortured, and put in a wagon with Kaithah Argentale. He used his crippled hands to rip three boards from the wagon’s bottom, so that the prisoners could escape. Bacrab was brained by a Minion’s mace in the streets of Oð, immediately following the escape.
  • Barádas; (610- DR) Innkeeper of the Illûwyr Inn in the Village of Nyl. Barádas was born in the City of Gyrdon to hotelier parents that catered to miners.
  • Barony Road; Trade. Old mining road that winds through the Morén Nōdrul from Erhet to the region around Ironhold.
  • Barrens, The; Trade. A desolate area within the walls of Oð that borders the cliffs of the Run Dul. An area frequented by thieves and low-lives, that is used by some as an entrance into the Lower Streets.

  • Battle of Snaking Pass; 1. Trade. Ancient battle where the united Ortor armies of Ragred the First were defeated by Dekàlan legions circa 840 HK; 2. First recorded use of the Dekàlan fire-catapult; used to destroy Ortor fortifications in the pass.
  • Bælidyr, Isiel (ihs I ehl BAYL ih dihr); OOð. ( – DR) Naryard Guildmaster of the Mourners’ Guild.

  • Beret, Cisco (SIHS ko BEHR eht); Oð. Member of the Darkfold Tales. (rf. Cisco)
  • Berl (behrl); 1. Dek. [The Anvil] Dekàlan zodiacal star sign of the anvil. The constellation’s designation of Berl was made official in 744 HK by the High Queen during the dedication of Kyrm Oryroð; 2. The anvil Berl is a symbol of Roð, and a sign of crafters and makers.
  • Black Bite; Trade. Third and fourth degree congelatio; frostbite.
  • blackbreath; Trade. An insinuative poison that turns the victim’s tongue black and causes the person to cough black spore clouds.
  • blackeyed drippy; Trade. A poison cultivated from a small violet flower in the Inùnda Dul that causes blindness.
  • Black Guard; Trade. 1. An honorary guard sent from Lanàdus in ancient times, to show support for a High Lady or Lord in good standing with the Council of Lanàdus also used to deliver news of great importance; 2. [The Godless Command] A unit of elite Dekàlan soldiers programmed to honor the High King and local Temples.

  • blackheart; 1. Trade. An insinuative poison that induces myocardial infarctions; 2. Name of the small mushroom from which the poison is milked.

  • Black Ortor; Oð. A sub-species of Ortor that is physically smaller than most Teréðori Ortor (rf. Sortor).

  • Blacktongue, Nereb (NEHR ehb); 1. Oð/Trade. A silversword of the Wesridge post of the Merchant Guard; 2. The arresting officer when Alcèrra was captured in a nearby graveyard “unlawfully” wearing armor in public. Due to her subsequent release, Nereb is sure to have lost money on the arrest.
  • Blessing of the Blades; Trade. Holy rite performed by worshipers of Ættràkar the Artificer in times of war.
  • bloodling; 1. Trade. [Scion of the Blood] Original creature risen from the blood of the First War; an entity of legendary strength and power; 2. A titan.
  • Bloody Inn, The; Trade. Popular inn of Dolor run by Iala Maradcha; named for its proximity to the Run Merdus.
  • Bludspar, Taltas (BLUHD spahr TAEL tahs); Acen. Necromancer king of Acèntyra who incited the passions of the Council of Lanàdus which led to the First Dekàlan Crusade.
  • Bludzru (BLUHD zru); Ort. (rf. Bludzru)
  • Bluntleaf; Trade. Narcotic plant cultivated and enchanted by the Nar Drūden Eylfāe and exported into mortal ports of eastern Teréðor. The high is called “blunted” and makes mortals stupid, lethargic, and un-motivated; the effect lasts 20-30 minutes. The weed is usually smoked in pipes and is very addictive. Dens devoted to Bluntleaf appear as far south as Kændal.
  • Boat Road; Trade. [Portage Way] Ancient track bed along which ships constructed in the City of Oð were transported to the town of Portage, for depositing into the Nyr Platan.
  • Bocor (BO kohr); OOð. (460-550 DR) Targan magician-anatomist who collected parts of creatures and people to create the Assembled. Bocor was killed by his creations which grew to detest “wholes”, including their creator. His skeleton was found by Jak the Red in the basement of Kurum Nekùlðe.
  • Boldrin (BOHL drihn); Murd. Clan of the Dwürden Mor.

  • Botton Liche, Bottòn Liç (BOT tohn lech); Dek. A small tabby-walled fishing town along the west shore of Argud’s Sound.
  • Bowls, The; Trade. An ancient edifice consisting of several giant stone bowls standing at the center of Jædð‘s Old City. The Bowls serve as the High Temple of Sudul, Kyrm Or’Sudul.
