The people of Sōlorn are known to themselves as the Children of Jorn, patriarch of the Sòlorni Kingdoms. Jorn is believed to have emerged from an inland paradise known as Alk Kìtur that was inhabited by a race of High Yrūn. The High Yrūn lived in that place for untold centuries before a great catastrophe destroyed it and its inhabitants. The nature of the catastrophe varies from cult to cult (e.g., earthquake, volcano, disease). Jorn, his companion Njara, his sister Odìmis, and a handful of others survived the devastation. Some cults refer to Njara as the sister of Jorn, others as his wife. The Children of Jorn settled throughout the Sōlòrni Kingdoms. Jatar, bastard son of Njara, went south and settled among the Sands of Illin.
The Sōlòrnyr do not believe in immortal gods. They believe that godhood (i.e., the Mantle of Jorn) is handed down from one generation to the next through a series of rituals or contests. Different cults handle this succession differently. The Sōlòrnra Kingdoms are named for the children of the Jorn, to whom the First Mantles were given.
